Bears soar past Riverhawks for fifth straight win

 

Blanca Millan scored 18 of her game high 22 points in the first half Wednesday, to pace the Maine Black Bears to a 69-51 America East womens basketball win over UMass-Lowell at Tsongas Arena in Lowell, Mass.

Maine shot over 50 percent in the first half, including 7-11 from three point range to build a comfortable 39-26 halftime advantage.

Maine scored the first four points of the third to build to a 17 point lead, and UMass-Lowell (3-19, 0-9 America East) never got closer than 10 the rest of the way.

Millan added five rebounds and four steals to her point total for Maine, who improves to 14-8 and 7-2 in the conference with their fifth straight win. Parise Rossignol added 11 points, and freshman guard Dor Saar chipped in 11 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and a steal. Overall, the Black Bears shot 43 percent from the field and 11-20 from three point range.

Kayla Gibbs had 15 points and five rebounds for the Riverhawks. Brianna Rudolph had 12 points and six rebounds, as UMass-Lowell remained winless in the league with their last America East win in February 2017.

Maine will stay on the road and visit Binghamton on Saturday at 1 p.m., in a rematch of an earlier season  matchup in Bangor that the Bearcats won in overtime.
