Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 249 past athlete of the week winners.
This week, we had nine Rowell’s Garage male athlete of the week nominations. Bryce Gilbert averaged 31.5 points in four games this week. This is the eighth athlete of them week honor for the senior from Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS). Gilbert edged out Ryan Fandell Orono high school in the voting this week. Fandell shined in special Olympics skiing and in a Unified basketball game. Gilbert joins Kolleen Bouchard (17) from Houlton High School and Justin Thompson (9) from Schenck high school who have been named athlete of the week at least eight times.

Bryce Gilbert- PCHS- Basketball – recorded 43 points, 19 rebounds, four assists, four steals, and two blocks in 75-38 win over Valley. Recorded 22 points and 14 rebounds in 57-55 loss to Schenck. Had 22 points, six rebounds, and four assists in 51-42 loss to Lee. Had 39 points and 11 rebounds in 65-58 win over Bangor Christian.

Ryan Fandell- Orono- basketball- skiing- at special olympics, Fandell medaled in three downhill skiing events, one gold, one silver, one bronze. In a unified game, Fandell made four baskets for eight points.

Jeremy Richard- Foxcroft- Basketball- scored 21 points in 61-54 win over Mount View.
Griffin Guerrette- Presque Isle- Basketball- scored 35 points, including 1000 career point in 66-47 win over Orono. Scored 20 points in 70-47 loss to Hermon.
Logan Thompson- Mattanawcook- Basketball- scored 16 points, including a 3 pointer at the buzzer in 55-52 win over Lee.
Zach Hartsgrove- Nokomis – basketball- scored 29 points in 56-48 win over Messalonskee.
Ryan Fandell- Orono- basketball- skiing- at special olympics, Fandell medaled in three downhill skiing events, one gold, one silver, one bronze. In a unified game, Fandell made four baskets for eight points.
Reece Carter – PVHS – basketball – Put in a three pointer with two seconds left in 36-35 win over Dexter. Scored 14 points (all in first half) in 57-24 win over Penquis. Had 10 points, including 2 three pointers in the fourth quarter and a steal with four seconds left to secure 46-45 win over Mattanawcook.
Grant Kidon- PVHS – basketball- scored 14 points in 57-24 win over Penquis. Had 16 points, including two free throws with 22 seconds left to give Howlers 46-45 win over Mattanawcook. Recorded 15 points, five rebounds, four steals, and three assists in 36-35 win over Dexter.
Jacob Godfrey- Hermon- basketball- scored 23 points, including 1000 career point in 70-47 win over Presque Isle.
