Schenck picks up quarterfinal boys win over GHCA

BANGOR, Me- The Schenck Wolverines used a big second quarter run Monday night, and went on to defeat the Greater Houlton Christian Eagles 54-30 in a boys Class D quarterfinal game at the Cross Insurance Center.

A slow start for both teams saw the Wolverines up 9-6 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, Schenck outscored GHCA 15-2 and held the Eagles without a field goal in building a 24-8 lead at the half behind 10 points from Riley Dionne.

GHCA (12-6), was ignited by Cole Winslow who scored all seven points in a 7-0 run to cut into the Schenck lead to start the third at 24-15. Schenck regained control with a 14-2 spurt of their own to take a 38-17 lead. The Wolverines never led by less than 15 the rest of the way, improving to 9-10 and advancing into a semifinal game Thursday night against Woodland.

Dionne led the Wolverines with 22 points. Travis Thompson added 12, and Tyrone Davis chipped in seven points and eight rebounds.

Cole Winslow finished with 12 points and five rebounds, while Austin Winslow finished with seven for the Eagles of GHCA.
