March 31, 2018

Xander Bogaerts continued his red hot hitting to start the season in leading the Boston Red Sox to a 3-2 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday night at Tropicana Field.

Bogaerts recorded three hits, including a double and homer. He is only the second player in history to get at least two hits in each of the first three games of the regular season. Adrian Gonzalez did it for the Dodgers in 2015.

Bogaerts started the scoring with a solo home run in the second inning. Bogaerts also doubles home JD Martinez in the sixth inning.

While Bogaerts was leading the offense, Rick Porcello turned in a solid effort on the mound. He allowed one run on six hits and one walk, while striking out four in 5.1 innings.

Martinez for his first two hits in a Red Sox uniform. Craig Kimbrel pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his second save of the season.
