Husson baseball splits NAC openers

The Husson baseball team hosted UMaine-Farmington Saturday at the Winkin Complex in the North Atlantic Conference openers for both teams.

Husson (3-8, 1-1 NAC) started out fast in game one with a 4-0 first inning lead, but the Beavers from UMF rallied back and put up four runs in the seventh inning that included a long three run homerun to left field by Kevin Carter to pick up the 8-5 win. Stefen Strahan had two hits and an RBI for the Eagles. Carter finished with five RBI for UMF. Jesse Colford started on the mound, and gave up four runs on six hits in 5.0 innings. Jacob Gauvin (0-1) suffered the loss in relief allowing four runs on three hits in 1.0 inning.

Luke Covey had three hits and three RBI in game two to help Husson garner the split with a 5-1 win.

Cody Collins (1-1) went the distance to pick up the win on the hill, pitching 7.0 innings, allowing just one run, four hits, and striking out five.

UMaine-Farmington drops to 4-5, 1-1. Husson will host UMPI in more non-conference action on Tuesday at 3 p.m. with a doubleheader.
