East Grand holds off Highview Christian baseball

BANGOR, Maine- The East Grand Vikings built a 5-2 lead over the host Highview Christian Academy Knights Thursday night, and held on for a 5-4 win at Mansfield Stadium in Class D baseball action.

Highview took a 1-0 lead in the second when TJ Sheldon scored on a wild pitch by East Grand starting pitcher Trevor Noyes. The Vikings responded with three runs in the top of the third, and added single runs in the fourth and fifth to make it 5-2, after Highview had cut it to 3-2 in bottom of third. The Knights rallied with two runs in the bottom of the sixth, and had the tying run on third in their last at bat, but Megan McDonald grounded out to end it.

Noyes earned the win on the mound for the 3-2 Vikings, allowing two earned runs, six hits, one walk, with seven strikeouts in the 7.0 inning effort. Desi Murray took the loss for the 1-4 Knights, allowing two earned runs, seven hits, two walks, with four strikeouts in 6.0 innings. Murray also had three wild pitches and hit three batters. Thomas Gilman had a pair of hits and two RBI to lead the Vikings offense. Murray had an RBI double, and McDonald and Sheldon had RBI groundouts for the Knights of Charleston.

Both teams are back in action Monday as East Grand hosts Woodland at 4 pm, and Highview travels to Rangeley at 330.
