Piscotty’s emotional homer helps A’s get by Red Sox

After a delay of 1 hour 42 minutes due to rain. Eduardo Rodriguez gave up three early runs as the Boston Red Sox fell 5-3 to the Oakland Athletics at Fenway Park on Tuesday night

Oakland scored two runs in the first inning and added another in the second inning on an emotional homer from Stephen Piscotty. It was his first at bat since missing four games on the bereavement list. Piscotty’s mothers celebration of life was Monday in Pleasanton, Calif. Piscotty boarded a plane at 9 AM Eastern time on Tuesday morning and about 12 hours later he was smacking one over the green monster. Piscotty said in a postgame interview- “I know my mom was watching.”

Andrew Benintendi had three hits, including a homer. Benintendi did have a big base running blunder in the first inning that ended the inning. Bases would have been loaded but Benintendi ran past third base.

Xander Bogaerts and Mitch Moreland had two hits each. Rodriguez (3-1) gave up three runs on eight hits in five innings. Steven Wright struggled in his first game. Allowing two runs on three walks and two hits in 2.1 innings. Chris Sale is scheduled to pitch for the Red Sox in the series finale on Wednesday night.
