Benintendi leads Sox over Jays Monday afternoon

May 28, 2018

Andrew Benintendi had three hits and four RBI, falling just a double shy of the cycle Monday afternoon to lead the Boston Red Sox to an 8-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park. Benintendi had a single, triple, and his seventh homer of the season.

David Price (5-4) got the win, allowing two earned runs, four hits, with four strikeouts in a five inning effort. Price was hit with a line drive in first inning and looked to be scuffling a bit in the second inning, but was able to hang in and get the win.

JD Martinez added a two run homer, his 17th tying him with Mookie Betts and the Angels Mike Trout for the major league lead. Rafael Devers also added two hits. Heath Hembree and Steven Wright pitched the final four innings, allowing just one run, three hits, with a combined five strikeouts.

Boston is now also a MLB best 37-17, and two games in front of the NY Yankees for first place in the AL East. Rick Porcello will take the mound in the middle game of the three game series Tuesday night.
