Second Black Bear taken in draft, Red Sox make late round picks

For the second time Tuesday afternoon, a Maine Black Bear was taken in the Major League Baseball draft. After the Houston Astros took shortstop Jeremy Pena with the 102nd pick in the third round, the Toronto Blue Jays picked catcher Christopher Bec with pick number 146 in the fifth round.

Bec hit. 315 with eight homers and 27 RBI with 56 hits and 36 runs scored in 45 games in 2018 for Maine.

The Boston Red Sox additional picks included catcher Kole Cottam from Kentucky (130), right handed pitcher Thad Ward from Central Florida (160), outfielder Devlin Granberg from Dallas Baptist (190), second baseman Jarren Duran from Cal State Long Beach (220), catcher Elih Marrero from St. Thomas University (250), and pitcher Brian Brown from North Carolina State (280).
