Steven Wright pitched seven shutout innings to lift the Boston Red Sox to a 6-0 win over the Detroit Tigers at Fenway Park on Tuesday night.
J.D. Martinez got the scoring started with a two run homer in the first inning. It was his league leading 20th home run. Xander Bogaerts hit his ninth homer of the season in the fifth inning. Martinez finished with two hits and three runs scored. Mitch Moreland, Jackie Bradley JR, and Eduardo Nunez also had two hits each.
Wright (2-0) only allowed two hits and three walks, while striking out six. It was his first start of the season. Drew Pomeranz was placed on the disabled list prior to the game. Eduardo Rodriguez will be on the mound for game two of the series against the Tigers on Wednesday night.
