Sox put 10 more on the board for sixth straight win

Xander Bogaerts had three RBI, JD Martinez added three hits and an RBI, and Brian Johnson pitched seven innings Wednesday night as the Boston Red Sox defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 10-5 at the Rogers Centre.

Boston (81-34), jumped to a 7-0 sixth inning lead en route to their sixth win in a row, and second straight game scoring 10 runs on Toronto. Rafael Devers returned to the lineup and had two hits and a pair of RBI, with both RBI coming on his 16th homer in the sixth. Andrew Benintendi added two hits and an RBI, reaching base all four times with two walks. Justin Smoak had three hits for the hosts, while Randal Grichuk had a single and a three run homer, and Teoscar Hernandez added a two run shot for the 51-62 Jays. The Red Sox are now 73-1 this season when leading after eight innings.

Johnson (3-3), gave up five runs, six hits, two walks, with six strikeouts in his seven innings of work to earn the win for the Sox. Ryan Brasier and Joe Kelly worked a scoreless inning each out of the bullpen. Mike Hauschild (1-1) took the loss, allowing four runs, three hits, and three walks in 2.1 innings. Toronto then used five guys out of their pen over the final 6.2 innings giving up six runs on nine hits combined.

Boston goes for their second straight A.L. East series sweep on Thursday night at 7:07 when Rick Porcello takes the hill. Ryan Borucki takes the ball for Toronto.
