The New York Yankees broke open a tie game with three runs in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth inning in an 8-5 win over the Boston Red Sox on Saturday afternoon at Fenway Park.
The Yankees hit two homers including their 265th of the season. That breaks the season record previously set by the 1997 Seattle Mariners. The win was the 100th of the season for the Yankees. It is the first time the Red Sox and Yankees both got at least 100 wins in the same season.
Nathan Eovaldi allowed one unearned run in two innings in his final tuneup before postseason play. Eduardo Rodriguez (12-5) struggled out of the bullpen for the Red Sox. Rodriguez allowed three runs in two innings.
Andrew Benintendi and Brock Holt has two hits each, including Holt smacking his 7th home run of the season. The teams will finish regular season play on Sunday afternoon with Rick Porcello taking the mound to start for the Red Sox. The Yankees will host the Oakland A’s in the wildcard game at Yankee stadium on Wednesday night. The Red Sox will play the winner of the wildcard game in a best of five series starting Friday at Fenway Park.
