Red Sox win series over Yankees to earn trip to ALCS

The Boston Red Sox held off a 9th inning rally and defeated the New York Yankees 4-3 at Yankee Stadium in game four of their ALDS series on Tuesday night at Yankee stadium.

With the win, the Red Sox won the series 3-1 and advanced to the ALCS against the Houston Astros.

The Red Sox got on the board when Ian Kinsler and Eduardo Nunez had big hits to spark a three run third inning. J.D. Martinez added a sacrifice fly. They added another run on a Christian Vazquez solo homer in the fourth inning.

Rick Porcello pitched five strong innings to earn the victory. Porcello allowed one run on four hits. He didn’t issue a walk and struck out one.

Matt Barnes and Ryan Brasier each pitched a perfect inning. Chris Sale came into pitch the eighth inning. Sale was the scheduled game five starter. Sale helped make sure their wasn’t a game five by pitching a perfect inning.

The Red Sox held a 4-1 lead entering the bottom of the ninth inning. Closer Craig Kimbrel came in and struggled from pitch one. He walked Aaron Judge on four pitches to start the inning. The Yankees cut the deficit to 4-3 and had the winning run on base. Gleyber Torres hit a slow grounder to third base, Nunez made an excellent play as did Steve Pearce at first base to end the game and the series. Pearce and Nunez had two hits each.

It is the first Red Sox ALCS appearance since 2013. Game one will start at 8:09 PM on Saturday night. Game two is scheduled for 7:09 PM. Both those at Fenway Park. The series will shift to Houston for game three next Tuesday.
