Foxcroft coach Danny White Postgame interview
DEXTER— Matthew Spooner threw three touchdowns as the Foxcroft Ponies scored 22 unanswered points to defeat Dexter 28-7 on Saturday afternoon.
The Ponies first possession started at the Dexter 26 yard line after a short Tigers punt. Ponies punched it in on the seventh play of the drive on a Spooner to Jeremy Richards nine yard score with 8:10 remaining in the first quarter.
Both teams had a struggle moving the ball in the first half with the exception of a 10 play drive for Dexter in the second quarter that didn’t end with any points. That drive was kept alive by a Foxcroft penalty on a fourth down.
Dexter took advantage of good field position when they got the ball at the Ponies 30. The first play of the drive from scrimmage was a touchdown throw from Logan Perkins to Tyler Chapman. The Tigers took the lead on the extra point with 1:59 left in the half. Foxcroft responded quickly with a Spooner to Luke Stedman score. They made the two point conversion to take a 14-7 halftime lead.
After an even first half, the Ponies outscored Dexter 14-0 in the second half. Foxcroft had 171 total yards in the second half and only allowed 19 yards in the final 24 minutes.
Hyatt Smith caught Spooner’s third touchdown pass and Michaleb Niles finished off the scoring with a seven yard touchdown run. Spooner threw for 183 yards on 12-21 passing. Niles rushed for 74 yards on 16 carries. Foxcroft (8-0) finishes as the top seed in the final class D regular season standings. The Ponies will host a semifinal game on November 2nd.
Dillion Allen rushed for 88 yards on 15 carries for the Tigers. Dexter (5-3) finishes as the fourth seed in class D. They will host Washington Academy in a quarterfinal game on Saturday, October 27th. The winner of that game will travel to Foxcroft for a semifinal contest.
