Marchand nets overtime winner, B’s drop Stars

November 5, 2018

Brad Marchand scored on a 5 on 3 powerplay with 31 seconds left in overtime Monday night, as the Boston Bruins got past the Dallas Stars 2-1 at TD Garden.

Boston (8-4-2) carried the play most of the night, but was held to just the one goal through regulation by Dallas and former Bruins netminder Anton Khudobin. The hosts got a powerplay 3:25 in, but gave up a shorthanded goal to Radek Faska who beat Bruins goalie Tuuka Rask with a shot from a bad angle. Boston evened the score though 1:20 later on the same powerplay as Jake Debrusk found a wide open David Pastrnak in the slot, and Pastrnak one timed the pass for his 12th goal of the season to make it 1-1.

Khudobin made 31 saves in regulation time as Boston dominated play in the Dallas zone and neutral zone all night. In overtime, the Stars got hit with a too many men on ice penalty, and then 11 seconds later another penalty when Esa Lindell cross checked Marchand. The winner came 1:02 after the Lindell penalty when David Krejci slid the puck down to an open Marchand to the left of Khudobin, who fired home a quick wrist shot to end the game. Boston went 2-3 on the powerplay, while Dallas was 0-1. Rask made 24 saves on 25 shots, while Khudobin finished with 33 saves. The Stars are now 8-5-1.

The game saw a flavor of former University of Maine Black Bears, in Dallas head coach Jim Montgomery and current Stars center Devin Shore. Boston will host Vancouver on Thursday at 7 pm.
