Bridge powers Wells to third straight state title

ORONO– Tyler Bridge finished his high school football career with a game to remember in leading the Wells Warriors to a 55-20 win over Foxcroft in the Maine Principals’ Association class D State championship game played Saturday night at Alfond Stadium.

Bridge rushed for 204 yards and five touchdowns on 15 carries. He also threw a 42 yard touchdown pass and had a team leading six tackles.

Bridge and Payton MacKay combined for 375 yards rushing. MacKay caught the touchdown pass from Bridge.

MacKay got the scoring started with a 21 yard touchdown run with 7:22 remaining in the first quarter. That would be the only points scored in the first 12 minutes.

The second quarter was a different story as Bridge rushed for three touchdowns and threw for another in the quarter. Wells outscored the Ponies 27-7 to take a 34-7 halftime lead.

Devin Chace scored the only Warriors touchdown in the third quarter when he scooted into the end zone from 21 yards out.

Logan Martin had two touchdowns for the Ponies, including a 54 yard pass from Matt Spooner. Jeremy Richard had a 72 yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Wells had 476 total yards, including 434 rushing. Foxcroft finished with 213 yards, 119 passing from Spooner who finished 11-22.

It is the third straight state championship for Wells (12-0). Foxcroft finished the season with a 10-1 record.
