Bruins beat rival Canadians, Celtics fall again

November 24, 2018

Both the Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics were on the road Saturday night, as the Bruins played their hated rivals in Montreal and the Celtics looked to pick up their second straight win when they visited Dallas.

At Montreals Bell Centre, John Moore scored a late powerplay goal with less than three minutes left to lift the Boston Bruins to a 3-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens.

Boston (13-6-4) had staked themselves to a 2-0 lead when David Backes and Jake Debrusk scored 1:41 apart in the first period. But the Canadiens rallied when Jonathan Drouin scored at 6:46 of the third period, and then Tomas Tatar scored on the powerplay at 10:09 to tie things up 2-2. Moores winner came at 17:03, on assists from Backes and David Kreijci. Backes and Moores goals were their first scores of the season.

Kreijci had two assists on the night, and goalie Tuuka Rask stopped 31 of 33 shots in the Bruins win. Carey Price stopped 32 of 35 in the loss, as the Habs lost their fourth straight game and fell to 11-8-5. Boston was 1-6 on the powerplay, while Montreal was 1-5. Boston is at Toronto Monday night at 7 pm.

After an 18 point road win at Atlanta Friday night, the Boston Celtics looked for their second straight win with a visit to American Airlines Center in Dallas to battle the Mavericks. It was not to be for the Celtics however, as J.J. Barea and Harrison Barnes scored 20 points a piece to lead the Mavs to a 113-104 win.

Dallas (9-9) led by as many as 12 in the first half, before Boston closed it to 59-56 at the half. The Celtics took their first and only lead of the game at 74-73 when Jayson Tatum drove the lane for a dunk with 5:26 left in the third quarter. The Mavs though took control to go back up five at the end of the quarter. Boston (10-10) stayed within three to five points early in the fourth, before Dallas used a 16-6 run finished off with a Barea three pointer to make it 103-90 with just 5:44 left, putting the game out of reach.

Tatum had 21 points to lead the Celtics. Kyrie Irving and Marcus Smart had 19 points a piece, Jaylen Brown 16 points, with Marcus Morris also chipping in 13. Along with Barea and Barnes 20 a piece, Wesley Matthews and Luka Doncic had 15 points a piece, and DeAndre Jordan had 14 for the Mavs who have won six straight home games. Boston is at New Orleans Monday night at 8 pm to battle the Pelicans.
