Lexi Ireland claims fifth Charles Inn athlete of the week honor

Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 282 past athlete of the week winners.

This week, we had six Rowell’s Garage female athlete of the week nominations. Lexi Ireland averaged 25.5 points and 12 rebounds in two games plus had a triple double this past week to help the Penobscot Valley High School (PVHS) Howlers get two wins. Ireland is the 11th student/athlete to earn at least five athlete of the week honors. The junior from PVHS joins Kolleen Bouchard (Houlton) (19) (3-5-18), Taylor Schildroth (George Stevens) (9) (3-5-18), Leine McKechnie (PVHS) (9) (5-20-18), Bryce Gilbert (PCHS) (9) (2-11-18), Justin Thompson (Schenck (9) (1-22-17),Karli Theberge (Hermon) (7) (5-29-16), Gage Feeney (Washington Academy) (7) (5-16-15), Parise Rossignol Van Buren (6) (2-23-14), Max McHugh (Central) (5) (1-13-13), and Isaiah Bess (Penquis)  (5) (3-4-13),

The Charles Inn female athlete of the week

Lexi Ireland- basketball- recorded 15 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists in 54-25 win over Searsport. Recorded 36 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 steals in win over Lee. 

Runner up

Emily Curtis- Woodland – Basketball- recorded 46 points, 11 rebounds, and five blocks in win over Machias. 

Other nominations

Laney Harding- PVHS- Basketball- had 17 points and eight rebounds in 54-25 win over Searsport.

Bailey Donovan- Hampden- Basketball- scored 23 points in 47-40 win over Messalonskee.

Hannah Richards- Old Town- Basketball- scored 23 points in 55-32 win over Washington Academy.

Lauren Cook- the junior had 24 points, including surpassing the 1000 point career mark in win over Sumner.
