Potter helps GHCA get past Southern Aroostook

BANGOR, Maine- Issac Potter scored 12 of his game high 20 points in the second half Saturday night, to propel the Greater Houlton Christian Eagles to a 54-44 quarterfinal win over the Southern Aroostook Warriors in a Maine Principals’ Association Class D quarterfinal game at the Cross Insurance Center.

GHCA (16-2) swapped the lead with SA early before taking an 8-6 lead at the end of the opening eight minutes. The Warriors tied it 8-8 early in the second, before the Eagles took over with a 9-2 run for a seven point lead and led 22-16 at halftime.

Back to back baskets by Parker Brewer and Potter to start the third increased the lead to 10, a lead they later increased to 12 at the end of the third stanza. Southern Aroostook (9-9) got as close as six, doing so on a three point play from Jayden Burpee with 55 seconds to play. Potter went 6-6 from foul line though in the final 55 seconds to put the game away.

Potter grabbed nine rebounds to go along with the game high point total for the Eagles. Will Austin and Brewer both added 11 points. Cole Winslow chipped in nine points and five rebounds. Burpee finished with 19 points for the Warriors, while Garrett Siltz added 17 points and eight rebounds. Siltz scored 13 of his teams 17 fourth quarter points.

GHCA will face the Jonesport-Beals in a semifinal game Thursday at 2:05 p.m.
