Top seed MDI turns up the defense in quarterfinal win over MCI

BANGOR–The Mount Desert Island (MDI) Trojans went 9-0 run to start the third quarter to pull away in a 42-27 win over Maine Central Institute (MCI) in a class B girls basketball quarterfinal game played Saturday afternoon at the Cross Insurance Center.

MDI jumped out to a 6-1 lead and never trailed. The Huskies got the deficit to one late in the first quarter and again at halftime when they trailed 21-20. The Trojans held MCI to seven points in the second half.

Sydney Farrar scored a game high 17 points to lead the Huskies. She also had four steals. MCI finishes their season with a 10-10 record.

Hannah Chamberlain led the Trojans with 12 points and six steals. Julia Watras addd 11 points and eight rebounds. Maddy Candage chipped in with eight points, five rebounds, and three assists. Rachelle Swanson contributed six points, five rebounds, and four steals. MDI (17-2) will take on Winslow in a Maine Principals’ Association Class B semifinal game on Wednesday night.
