Shires cruise to quarterfinal win over PVHS

BANGOR- Nolan Porter scored 10 of his game high 22 points in the first quarter to lead the Houlton Shires to a 72-32 win over PVHS in a Maine Principals’ Association Class C boys basketball quarterfinal game played Tuesday night at the Cross Insurance Center.

Porter helped set the tone as the Shires jumped out to a 10-2 lead and held a 17-6 advantage after the first quarter. The Howlers would cut the deficit to 17-9 early in the second quarter. That would be the last time the Shires lead would be below double digits.

Elijah Wood scored a team high 12 points for the Howlers. PVHS ends the season with a 17-3 record. Houlton out rebounded PVHS 31-18.

Porter added three rebounds and three steals to go along with his 22 points. Nick Brewer added 16 points, nine rebounds, and three steals. Keegan Gentle recorded 14 points, five rebounds, and four steals. Houlton (16-4) will play a semifinal game at 3:35 PM on Friday afternoon.
