Patriots take four on Day 2 of NFL Draft

April 26, 2019

The New England Patriots came into Day 2 with five draft picks culminating for the 2nd and 3rd rounds. Of course New England made some trades and picked up some more picks for tomorrow but all in all the Patriots used four of their picks on Day 2, and here is the run down:

Round 2: Pick 45: Defensive Back out of Vanderbilt, JoeJuan Williams

A big man, Williams stands at 6-3, 208 lb. In his three year career at Vanderbilt he has 119 tackles, four interceptions, and one forced fumble. Williams is a prototypical Patriot who has a big build and can work the outside well opposite of Stephon Gilmore.

Round 3: Pick 77: Defensive End out of Michigan, Chase Winovich

Fierce and Versatile, a stud out of Michigan who stands at 6-3, 255 lb. In his four years at Michigan, Winovich had 166 tackles, 18.5 sacks, and three forced fumbles. A man with a comparison to Clay Mathews expects to play a big part on defense in his first year.

Round 3: Pick 87: Running Back out of Alabama, Damien Harris

Safety insurance for Sony Michel, Alabamas stud Running Back Damien Harris stands at 5-11, 215 lb. Harris is a power back that will help the Patriots running game which started to show in their Championship run a season ago. Harris in his four years at Alabama rushed for 3,070 yards and 23 touchdowns, 407 receiving yards and two touchdowns for a total from the line of scrimmage of 3,477 yards and 25 scores.

A player that can impact the offense immediately, Brady will get a chance to hand the ball off to him and Sony Michel this upcoming season.

Round 3: Pick 101: Tackle out of West Virginia, Yodny Cajuste

Offensive line was one of the primary needs for the Patriots given how thin it has gotten with injuries, Cajuste will fill that need very well.

Day 3 of the Draft kicks off tomorrow, 12pm ET. Going in the Patriots have three 4th rounders and three 7th rounders, but as usual expect some trades to get either a fifth or sixth pick possibly. Catch all the action tomorrow on ABC | ESPN | NFL Network.
