Mookie Betts smacked a two run homer as the Red Sox scored four runs in the third inning and held off the Royals to earn a 7-5 win on Thursday afternoon at Kansas City.
The Royals jumped ahead 2-0 in the second inning as Ryan Weber struggled in lasting only 1.1 innings.
The Ryan Weber experience has run its course. A few promising early appearances but time to admit the guy who can’t crack 90 on the radar gun shouldn’t be in the rotation. #RedSox

The Red Sox came back quickly with their four runs in the third sparked by the blast off the bat of Betts and a two run single from Rafael Devers. Betts career success against Royals starter Danny Duffy continued as he now is 7-11 with five homers against the lefty.

With the Red Sox only leading by one, Christian Vazquez hit a triple that scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning as Boston took a 6-3 lead. They added another run during the inning on a wild pitch.
The Red Sox bullpen was able to hold off the Royals comeback. Colten Brewer (1-2) pitched two scoreless innings to pick up the win. Matt Barnes allowed one run while striking out two in the ninth inning to earn his fourth save. Ryan Brasier and Heath Hembree each pitched a scoreless inning.
The Red Sox swept the three game series and have won four in a row overall. Eduardo Nunez had three hits to lead the Boston offense. JD Martinez left the game early with a back injury. Next up for the Red Sox is a four game weekend series against the Rays at Fenway Park.
