Grandholm’s Hat Trick lifts MDI girls Soccer over John Bapst

September 18, 2019

ORONO,ME- The Mount Desert Island Trojans downed the John Bapst Crusaders
4-3 Wednesday afternoon at Alumni field on the Maine Campus. The Trojans earn their second win in as many nights after beating brewer 6-2 the night prior.

First Half: Shots were at a premium for both squads early in the contest. Senior Daisy Grandholm got the Trojans on the board first with a hard shot on the ground in the 14th minute of the game, she would have all but 1 shot for MDI in the first half with 7, 6 of those shots on goal, in the 28th minute a shot off the foot of Grandholm ricochet off the crossbar and out of play. It wasn’t until with 90 seconds left in the 1st half that the Crusaders could tie it. A free kick from 30 yards out off the foot of Gillian Skehan soared over Sophmore Trojans keeper Sabine Costello-Sanders and into the back of the net.

Second Half: The game didn’t stay tied for long as Grandholm broke the tie for good 7 minutes into the second half to make the score 2-1 off a pass from Lelia Weir, she would add another goal seven minutes later to complete the hat trick. John Bapst got two goals from Katelyn Harriman in the 61st and 71st minutes but would not tie the gam new again. Weir scored the 4th and final goal for the Trojans.

MDI improves to 5-1 on the season and will host Caribou on Tuesday September 24th.

John Bapst now stands at 1-3 on the season and will host mount view on Saturday.
