Balanced Scoring Attack Lifts Northeastern Over Maine in Hockey East Womens Opener

Orono,ME- The Northeastern University Huskies(4-0-0)(1-0-0) defeated the University of Maine Black Bears (2-2-1)(0-1-0) by a final score of 6-1 in the Hockey East Women’s opener for both teams at the Alfond Arena. The Huskies got six goals from five different scorers.

1st Period- Jess Schryver got the scoring going for the Huskies 11:33 into the game on a 2 on 1 breakaway. The Huskies would get another goal from Matti Hartman 13 seconds later on a shot off the face-off to extend the lead 2-0. 2 minutes and 4 seconds later Chloe Aurard extended the lead to 3-0. The Huskies outshot Maine 13-10 in the first period.

2nd Period- Mia Brown extended the Northeastern lead to 4-0 5:35 into the second period. Alina Mueller added her first of 2 goals of the night 11:55 into the second period on a power play to extend the lead to 5-0 for the Huskies. Black Bears starting Goalie Loryn Porter was replaced by Carly Jackson. The Black Bears outshot the Huskies 13-10 in the second period.

3rd Period- Mueller scored her second goal of the night and final goal of the night for the Huskies 6:31 into the final period. The Black Bears broke up Huskies goalie Aerin Frankels shut out bid with a goal from Teresa Vanisova 9:37 into the third period.

UP NEXT- Northeastern, who was picked to win a third consecutive Hockey East title wins their conference opener to improve to 4-0-0 to start the season and will host the University New Hampshire on Sunday. The Black Bears will stay home for another Conference matchup with Boston University Sunday at 2pm at Alfond Arena.
