PVHS defeats Woodland to finish regular season as top seed in class D girls soccer

October 21, 2019

In Howland, PVHS hosted Woodland on their Senior Night. One of those seniors Lexi Ireland put in four goals to lead the Howlers to a 4-0 win.

PVHS has six seniors represented on its roster. Ireland found the back of the net early for the Howlers, scoring a volley off a Delaney Theriault corner kick. Ireland would add another goal 14 minutes in when she scored off a direct kick, placing the ball just over the reach of the Woodland keeper Alyssa Stevens. Ireland would score her third goal of the half on a blast from 30 yards out. PVHS would hold the 3-0 lead after 40 minutes, and led the shot count 20-3.

PVHS would continue to hold the ball possession advantage into the second half, finished a scoring chance when Theriault beat her defender and played a great crossing ball to an awaiting Lexi Ireland. The goal would be the 120th of Ireland’s stellar career. Emilee Ireland finished with 2 saves on 3 shots for the 13-1 Howlers who secured 1st place in the Class ‘D’ North standings. Official final heal point results will be published tomorrow night. The Dragons drop to 4-10 on the year, and goalie Alyssa Stevens recorded 21 saves on 41 shots. PVHS will have a bye in the preliminary round, and should face the winner of Hodgdon/Madawaska in a home quarterfinal game on 10/29.
