Dexter rolls to win over Madison in preseason girls basketball contest

DEXTER– The Dexter Tigers jumped out to a 10-0 lead and rolled to a 62-26 victory over Madison in the Maine Highlands Federal Credit Union tip off tournament on Saturday afternoon.

Peyton Grant scored 14 of her game high 26 points in the first quarter as the Tigers jumped out to an 18-5 lead after the first eight minutes. Dexter held a 27-11 lead at halftime behind 20 points from Grant.

The Tigers defense held Madison to 11 field goals, including five in the second half. Dexter forced 25 turnovers, while only committing seven.

Elizabeth Kinney finished in double figures with 12 points for the Tigers. She also had four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Cheyenne Beem filled up the stat sheet with nine points, eight rebounds, five steals, and four assists. Jasmine Lewis had five points and five rebounds. Jillian Poliquin added four points. Kiana Bennett made a three pointer. Jozlynn Paige recorded two points, five rebounds, and three steals. Abi Wakefield had one point and seven rebounds.

Dexter out rebounded Madison 39-31. The Tigers shot 8-12 from the free throw line, the Bulldogs shot 4-14. Katie Worthen scored a team high eight points for the Bulldogs. Brooke McKenney added seven points and eight rebounds. Laura Leblanc had five points, nine rebounds, and three assists. Emily Edgerly and Abi Spaulding had four and two points respectively.

Dexter and Madison each played Waterville earlier in the day. Dexter fell 50-35, while Madison lost 70-40.
