Alley sisters power Stearns to win over Dexter

DEXTER– Alisyn Alley and Katherine Alley combined to score 34 points to lift the Stearns Minutemen girls basketball team to a 46-37 win over Dexter on Monday night.

The teams traded baskets in the first quarter until Katherine Alley gave Stearns a lead (9-7) with 1:10 remaining in the quarter. The Minutemen wouldn’t give the lead back despite Dexter getting within one (10-9) on a Cloe Mountain basket early in the second quarter. The Tigers would get that close two more times when Peyton Grant made a three pointer to cut the deficit to 13-12 and Grant made a jumper to make it 15-14. Stearns outscored Dexter 5-1 the rest of the quarter to take a 20-15 lead into halftime.

The second half started with a Elizabeth Kinney basket for Dexter to make the score 20-17. The Minutemen scored the next six points sparked by an Alisyn Alley three pointer. Stearns outscored Dexter 11-4 in the third quarter to take a 31-20 lead heading into the final eight minutes.

Cheyenne Beem sparked a Tigers fourth quarter surge as she had five points in the quarter as the deficit got as low as seven on two separate occasions in the final eight minutes. The Alley sisters were too much as Alisyn put in seven in the quarter and Katherine put in six, including sealing the game by going 4-4 from the free throw line.

Beem led the Tigers with 12 points and eight rebounds. Grant added seven points, four rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Mountain and Kinney each had six points and four assists. Abi Wakefield added four points and six rebounds. Jozlynn Paige came off the bench to score two points and grab three rebounds. Dexter (2-1) will travel to Central on Wednesday.

Katherine Alley led the Minutemen with 18 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Alisyn Alley filled up the stat sheet with 16 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, three blocks, and two steals. Kasey Kenyon added five points, five rebounds, and four steals. Annalys Robinson had three points and 11 rebounds, while Katie Kenyon and Maisey Girsa chipped in with two points each. Stearns (6-0) will host Penquis on Friday night.

Stearns out rebounded Dexter 38-26. The Minutemen shot 6-10 from the free throw line, while the Tigers shot 4-9.
