University of Maine women’s basketball head coach Amy Vachon announced Monday that standout senior Blanca Millan plans to return to the Black Bears for a fifth season in 2020-21.
Millan, who suffered a season ending ACL tear in her left knee in a game against Arizona State on November 29, will return pending a successful medical hardship waiver after the conclusion of the 2019-20 season. The 6 foot 1 guard from Santiago De Compostela Spain was leading the team with 18.2 points per game and 6.3 rebounds at the time of the injury, in which she has had surgery for since then. She was the America East Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in 2018-19 in leading the Black Bears to their second consecutive conference championship.
Coach Vachon also announced that Bar Harbor native Sierra Tapley will miss the rest of the season after upcoming knee surgery. Junior forward Kiera Barra and junior center Kat Williams will also graduate in May of 2020 and will forego their senior seasons with UMaine. The Black Bears are currently 7-11 overall and 3-1 in America East and play at first place UMass-Lowell on Wednesday morning at 11 a.m.
