Bangor,ME- The Husson men’s basketball team defeated Thomas College 82-74 behind a game high 23 point night from DJ Bussey Saturday at Newman Gymnasium.
The Terriers started the game out on fire as they opened up on a 22-7 run which took just over 11 minutes into the first half. A Jared Balsar layup ended the run. The Eagles quickly started clawing their way back as Thomas went cold from the floor, and Husson heated up cutting the Terriers lead to 35-32 at halftime after Justice Kendall hit a two point shot at the buzzer.
The second half was a back and forth contest between both squads. Husson opened the half with a 11-3 run which gave them their first lead of the game. Thomas would not go away, hitting some big shots and retaking the lead with 11:39 to go on a Justin Butler three point shot. Bussey took over late in the game hitting back to back three-pointers to put the Eagles on top for good with just over five minutes to go. The Terriers would not go away, but the Eagles knocked down their free throws in the final two minutes to close out the win.
Bussey shot 5-6 from the three point line. Kendall added 19 points and 4 assists, while Justin Thompson also contributed 10 points.
The Terriers were led by Zach Mackinnon with 21 points. Justin Butler added 12 points, and Jacob Godfey finished with 11 points and seven rebounds. Lovegeurson Fleurine also contributed 10 points.
Husson improves to 10-14 overall and 7-6 in the North Atlantic Conference. They will host Maine Maritime on Tuesday night at 7:30 in the regular season finale.
Thomas moves to 14-10 overall and 8-5 in conference. They will travel to UMF Tuesday night at 7:30 to battle the Beavers in the regular season finale.
