Peyton Grant beats the buzzer to send Dexter to the semifinals

BANGOR- Peyton Grant nailed a three pointer to beat the buzzer and give Dexter a 38-35 win over Narraguagus in a Class C quarterfinal game played Tuesday morning at the Cross Insurance Center.

The first quarter started with Grant making three free throws. Narraguagus followed that with a 7-0 run. The Knights held a 9-8 lead after the first eight minutes. Cloe Mountain gave the Tigers a 10-9 advantage early in the second quarter. Narraguagus went on a 5-1 run to take a 15-11 lead. Cheyenne Beem sparked a Tigers surge late in the half as she hit 2 three pointers and Dexter held a 24-18 advantage at intermission.

The defenses picked up and the offense slowed down in the third quarter. Narraguagus outscored Dexter 8-5 and cut the deficit to 29-26.

Narraguagus scored the first six points in the fourth quarter to take a 32-29 lead. Elizabeth Kinney made one free throw with 4:30 remaining to even the score at 32. Kirstin Kennedy went 1-2 to give the Knights a 33-32 lead. Grant made two free throws to give the Tigers a lead of 34-33. Mountain made a free throw that gave the Tigers a 35-33 lead. Emma Redimarker evened the score at 35 by going 2-2 from the line with 1:27 remaining. The Tigers got the last shot and Grant took advantage and made the shot that sent the Tigers to a win that sends them to the semifinals for a showdown with Central Aroostook.

Redimarker and Kaci Alley led the Knights with 11 points each. Anna Strout filled up the stat sheet with 10 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Narraguagus ends the season with a 17-3 record.

Grant scored a game high 20 points for the Tigers. She also had four steals. Beem had nine points and eight rebounds. Mountain chipped in with six points (4-5 FT). Kinney had five assists, while Abby Wakefield pulled down six rebounds. Dexter will enter their semifinal game on Thursday afternoon at 2 with an 11 game winning streak.
