Maine Schools To Heavily Represent In North Atlantic Conference Basketball Tournaments

Waterville,ME- The North Atlantic Conference officially announced its 2019-2020 tournament field for men’s and women’s basketball Thursday morning. Both mens and women’s basketball teams for Husson University, Thomas College, and The University of Maine Farmington will all see post season play. The Maine Maritime women’s team also made the field along with the University of Maine Presque Isle men.

NAC WOMEN:

Husson earned the right to the #1 seed and to host the NAC tournament with a 14-0 conference record, the first time since the 2009-2010 season the program has been perfect in conference play. The Eagles will attempt to play for their 5th straight NAC championship. They get a quarterfinal bye to the semifinals. They will play the winner of #5 NVU-Lyndon VS #4 Thomas.

MMA finishes second in conference for the second straight season with a 12-2 record, with both losses coming to the Eagles. They also receive a bye to the semifinals. They will face the winner of #6 NVU-Johnson and #3 UMF.

UMF earns the #3 seed with a 9-5 conference record. The Beavers got the #3 seed over Thomas after tie breaking procedures were used, they will host #6 NVU-Johnson who finished 4-10 in conference on Saturday at 2pm in a NAC quarterfinal.

Thomas College earns the #4 seed with a 9-5 record in conference and will host NVU-Lyndon(6-8 NAC) Saturday at 2PM in the second NAC quarterfinal.

Semifinal contests will be Friday night February 28th at Husson University with game times TBA. The Championship game will be Saturday February 29th at 2PM at Husson.

The conference champion earns the NAC automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

NAC MEN:

UMF earned the #1 seed and the right to host the conference tournament for the second straight year. The Beavers finished the season 13-1 in conference and will play the winner of #5 UMPI VS #4 Thomas.

SUNY-Canton earned the #2 seed finishing with a conference record of 10-4 and will travel to UMF to play the winner of #6 NVU-Johnson VS #3 Husson.

Husson earned the #3 seed with a 8-6 conference record after winning the head to head tie breaker over Thomas. Husson will host #6 NVU-Johnson Saturday February 22nd in a NAC quarterfinal at 4pm.

Thomas finished as the #4 seed in conference with a 8-6 record and will host #5 UMPI on Saturday afternoon at 2PM in a NAC quarterfinal.

The NAC semifinals will be played Friday night February 28th at the University of Maine Farmington with the championship game Saturday afternoon  at 2PM.

The conference champion earns the the automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
