Brady heads to the NFC South, officially signs with Tampa Bay

March 20, 2020

Tom Brady officially made his announcement on Instagram and Facebook Friday morning, stating that he has signed a two year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The six-time Super Bowl champion with New England, joins a Buccaneers team that went 7-9 a year ago behind quarterback Jameis Winston who threw 33 touchdowns but also 30 interceptions in 2019. Brady will now work with some big time offensive weapons that include receivers Mike Evans and Chris Goodwin, tight ends O.J. Howard and Cameron Brate, and running back Ronald Jones II. Some rumors say that Brady may try to lure Patriots receiver Julian Edelman to Tampa, along with Antonio Brown. The Buccaneers haven’t appeared in the playoffs since 2007 when they lost to the New York Giants in the wildcard round, and have only played in 15 postseason games total which is 26 less than their new quarterback.

Terms of the new deal for Brady are two years and 50 million guaranteed, with an opportunity to earn 4.5 million each year in incentives and also includes a no trade clause and no tag clause as well. The 20 year veteran appeared in 41 playoff games, led 36 comeback wins, and also had 45 game winning drives in his time in Foxborough. He also was named to 14 Pro Bowls, won three MVP awards, and four Super Bowl MVP trophies with his best season coming in 2007 when he threw for 50 touchdowns and only eight interceptions. Below is the statement from the now former leader of the New England Patriots-

“Excited, humble and hungry …if there is one thing I have learned about football, it’s that nobody cares what you did last year or the year before that…you earn the trust and respect of those around through your commitment every single day. I’m starting a new football journey and thankful for the @buccaneers for giving me an opportunity to do what I love to do. I look forward to meeting all my new teammates and coaches and proving to them that they can believe and trust in me…I have always believed that well done is better than well said, so I’m gonna not gonna say much more – I’m just gonna get to work”! #Year1
