America East adding 10th team

As announced first on Friday afternoon by Jeff Goodman, inside reporter for Stadium Sports, the America East Conference will be adding New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) as the newest varsity athletic team that will compete in 10 sports effective July 1st.

NJIT will join Maine, UNH, Vermont, Hartford, UMass-Lowell, Stony Brook, Hartford, Albany, Binghamton and UMBC to make the newer 10 team conference. The sports the Highlanders will compete in will include baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s fencing, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s track, and field and men’s and women’s tennis. They will also compete in men’s lacrosse and men’s swimming and diving. NJIT was previously part of the Atlantic Sun Conference and the school is located in Newark, New Jersey.

Record wise here is how the Highlanders stacked up in the 2019-2020 season in the major sports:

Men’s basketball: 9-21, 6-10 ASUN

Women’s basketball: 4-25, 1-15 ASUN

Baseball: 17-27-1, 7-17 ASUN (2019), 6-10 with no conference games played in 2020

Men’s Soccer: 10-5-4, 5-1 ASUN (champions), lost in first round of NCAA Tournament to Providence

Women’s Soccer: 7-8-3, 3-4-1 ASUN
