Cassidy wins NHL Coach of Year Award

September 10, 2020

Boston Bruins Head Coach Bruce Cassidy it was announced Wednesday night has been awarded with the Jack Adams Trophy, which goes to the Coach of the Year in the National Hockey League.

This is the first time Cassidy has won the award. He led Boston to the Presidents Trophy (best record and most points) this past season, but his team was eliminated in the conference semifinals in five games by Tampa Bay. Last spring the Bruins battled all the way to game seven of the Cup Finals before losing to the St. Louis Blues.

Cassidy becomes the fourth coach in franchise history to take the honor, following Don Cherry (1976), Pat Burns (1998), and his predecessor Claude Julien (2009). He took over for Julien in February 2017 and led Boston to playoff berth.
