Dodgers on cusp of first World Title since 1988

October 26, 2020

The Los Angeles Dodgers got 5.2 solid innings from Clayton Kershaw on the hill, and got RBI hits from four different players Sunday night for a 4-2 win over the Tampa Bay Rays in game five of the World Series in Arlington, Texas. Los Angeles now leads the best of seven series 3-2.

Kershaw allowed just two runs on five hits with six strikeouts in the solid effort, as the Dodgers bounced back from a tough walk off loss to the Rays in game four. They never trailed in this one getting RBI singles from Corey Seager and Cody Bellinger in the first inning, and then a solo homer from Joc Pederson in the second to make it 3-0. Tampa Bay rallied within a run in the bottom of the third on an RBI triple from Yandy Diaz, and an RBI single from Randy Arozarena. Max Muncy restored a two run Dodgers lead with a long solo homer to right center in the fifth, and the Los Angeles bullpen shut down Tampa Bay from there allowing no runs on two hits over the final 3.1 innings. Tyler Glasnow lost his second straight decision in the World Series on the hill for the Rays, allowing four runs and six hits over 5.0 innings. Kershaw picked up his second win and passed Roger Clemens for 13th on the all-time postseason wins list (13), and now has more strikeouts in the playoffs then any other player in history (207). Blake Treinen got the save. Muncy led the way with two hits. Diaz, Manuel Margot, and Kevin Kiermaier all had two hits each in the Tampa Bay loss.

Los Angeles tries to clinch their first World Title in 32 years when game six gets underway on Tuesday night at 8:08 p.m. The Dodgers will Tony Gonsolin to the mound, and the Rays counter with Blake Snell.
