UMaine releases 2020-21 men’s and women’s hockey schedules

The University of Maine along with Hockey East announced the 2020-21 men’s and women’s ice hockey schedules on Wednesday afternoon.

The men’s team begins their season on Friday, November 20 to open up a two game series at the Alfond Arena against #7 UMass. A total of 27 games are scheduled against Hockey East schools with 20 being league games, and seven more being counted as non-conference. No fans will be allowed at the Alfond at least for November and December, and will be re-evaluated on January 1 according to local, state, and national guidelines. Maine is coming off a 2019-20 campaign that saw them go 18-11-5 (12-9-3 Hockey East) and were scheduled to host a quarerfinal playoff series in Orono in March for the first time since 2015, before the rest of the season was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The women’s ice hockey team will open up on the road at Holy Cross on November 20-21. They have 26 games scheduled against Hockey East opponents, with 18 being counted as conference games and eight as non-conference. The Bears open up home play on November 27-28 against UConn. Maine went 15-14-8 (9-11-7 Hockey East) last season upsetting Boston University in the Hockey East quarterfinals, before falling to #4 Northeastern 3-1 in the semis.
