Brady headed to 10th Super Bowl, Mahomes to second straight

January 25, 2021

The AFC and NFC Conference Championship games were played on Sunday, and one very familiar face is headed back to another Super Bowl while another one is headed to his second straight.

At Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Tom Brady threw three interceptions but also three touchdowns for 280 yards and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers did just enough to hold off the Green Bay Packers 31-26 in the NFC Title game.

Brady threw TD passes to Mike Evans, Scotty Miller, and Cameron Brate and heads to an unprecedented 10th Super Bowl, trying to win his seventh. Tampa Bay becomes the first team in NFL history to host the Super Bowl in their home stadium. It is the teams first appearance since 2003.

At Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Patrick Mahomes threw for 325 and three touchdowns as the Kansas City Chiefs defended their AFC Title with a 38-24 win over the Buffalo Bills.

Mahomes, who had been a question until late in the week in the NFL concussion protocol after being knocked out of the Divisional Round win over Cleveland, showed no ill effects. Tyreek Hill (9-172), and Travis Kelce (13-118) combined for 22 catches and 290 yards with Kelce catching a pair of TD passes. Kansas City heads back to their second consecutive Super Bowl, and will look to win back to back after defeating San Francisco last season.

The Buccaneers (14-5) and the Chiefs (16-2) will play for it all on Sunday, February 7 at 6:25 p.m. at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay, Florida. Also for the first time ever the game will feature the two quarterbacks who have accounted for the last two World Championships (Mahomes-KC 2020), (Brady-NE 2019).
