As first reported by Lindsey Adler, Yankees reporter for the Athletic, the Boston Red Sox have acquired right handed relief pitcher Adam Ottavino in a deal made Monday afternoon.
Boston will pick up the final year of his contract he had with New York, which is $9 million for 2021. New York is also sending $850,000 and minor league pitcher Frank German to the Sox as part of the deal. Ottavino spent the last two seasons with the Yankees. He started his career with the St. Louis Cardinals before pitching for the Colorado Rockies from 2012-2018. He had a 2-3 record in 2020 with a 5.89 ERA, appearing in 24 games and striking out 25 batters in 18.1 innings. He won six games with Colorado in 2018 and with NY in 2019, with a 2.43 and 1.90 ERA respectively and also adding 19 saves over his 10 year career. This follows a deal made official by Boston on Saturday when they also acquired starting pitcher Garrett Richards from San Diego on a one year, $10 million contract.
