Nokomis rallies for girls basketball win over Foxcroft

DOVER-FOXCROFT– The Nokomis Warriors girls basketball team went on a 14-0 run in the second half and rallied for a 49-37 win over Foxcroft on Wednesday night.

Nokomis jumped out to a 15-9 lead after the first quarter as Brianna Townsend (6) and Alexys Mayhew (5) combined for 11 in the quarter.

The Ponies stepped it up in the second quarter, as they didn’t allow a field goal and outscored Nokomis 14-4 for a 23-19 halftime lead.

Foxcroft expanded the lead to 28-19 early in the second half. Nokomis followed that up with their 14-0 run and took a 33-28 lead. The Warriors went 11-12 from the free throw line in the quarter and 24-31 in the game.

Townsend scored a game high 18 points to lead the Warriors, and also had nine rebounds and two steals. Mayhew had 11 points and six rebounds. Townsend was the Our FAMBily restaurant player of the game. Cam King had eight points, five rebounds, and four steals. King was the Jersey Sub unsung hero of the game.

Kiya Cook scored a team high 11 points for the Ponies. Annie Raynes added seven points. Foxcroft (1-2) shot 8-20 from the free throw line. Nokomis out rebounded the Ponies 29-26.
