Maine women’s hockey shutout at UConn

The University of Connecticut Huskies got a game winning second period goal from Natalie Snodgrass and 29 saves in net from Samantha Carpentier-Yelle, and defeated the Maine Black Bears 3-0 on Friday evening at Mark Freitas Ice Arena in Storrs, CT in women’s Hockey East play.

Snodgrass got the game winner on assists from Viki Harkness and Jada Habisch at 9:46 of the middle period. Danika Pasqua added insurance at the 14:37 mark of the third, and Habisch added an empty net goal with 20 seconds left as UConn (6-9-1) broke a four game losing streak.

Loryn Porter made 41 saves in net in the loss for Maine (5-7-0). Carpentier-Yelle got her third shutout of the season for the Huskies. The Black Bears are now just 2-6 in their last eight games. The teams were supposed to play again Saturday, but that game will not be played as scheduled. Maine will await the Hockey East announcement on Tuesday to find out their next opponent.
