Central uses balance attack to get girls basketball win over Foxcroft

DOVER-FOXCROFT- Izzy Allen and Erica Noonan combined to go 6-6 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to help the Central Red Devils hold on for a 40-32 girls basketball win over Foxcroft on Friday afternoon.

Foxcroft held a 9-7 lead late in the first quarter, Grace Campbell hit a jumper to beat the first quarter buzzer and even the score at nine. The Red Devils continued the run to 11-0 as they scored the first nine points of the second quarter . Ainsley Ade made a three pointer late in the first half to cut the Ponies deficit to 18-12 heading into halftime.

The Red Devils had five different scorers in the their quarter and expanded the lead to 34-23 heading in the final eight minutes.

Annie Raynes scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter to help the Ponies get within 34-30. Allen went 2-2 from the free throw line with 3:52 left to give Central a 36-30 lead. Kathryn Commeau made 2-2 from the free throw line to get the Ponies within 36-32 with 1:25 left. Allen and Noonan made four free throws down the stretch to secure the win for the Red Devils.

Raynes scored a game high 12 points (7 in fourth quarter) for the Ponies. Ade and Halle Page added five points each. Foxcroft shot 5-6 from the free throw line.

Gabrielle Poulin led a balance Red Devils attack with 10 points and five rebounds. Poulin was named Our FAMBily restaurant player of the game. Allen filled up the stat sheet with nine points, seven rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Allen was named Jersey Sub unsung hero of the game. Noonan had nine points and seven rebounds. Rylee Speed and Abi Young had four points each. Speed also had five steals and four rebounds. Central shot 11-18 from the free throw line. The Red Devils out rebounded Foxcroft 31-21.
