Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. If you want to sponsor the female or male athlete of the week email Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. Use that same email to send your nominations in during the week. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 328 past athlete of the week winners.
This week, we had five Rowell’s Garage male athlete of the week nominationn. Malachi Cummings averaged 32.7 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and four steals in helping Presque Isle to three wins this past week. Cummings edged out Kobe Gilbert to become the sixth student/athlete from Presque isle high school and first since February 2018 to earn athlete of the week honors. He joins Chandler Guerrette (3-4-13), Hannah Graham (2) (1-17-15), Madison Michaud (10-15-17), Griffin Guerrette (2) (1-21-18), and Emily Wheaton (2) (2-27-18).
Male athlete of the week February 15th-February 20th
- Malachi Cummings- Presque Isle- basketball- Had 28 points, five rebounds, five assists, and four steals in 81-41 win over Fort Fairfield. Recorded 40 points, 10 rebounds, four steals, and made five three pointers in 77-36 win over Fort Kent. Recorded 30 points six rebounds, six assists, and four steals in 77-49 win over Fort Kent.
Runner up
- Kobe Gilbert – PCHS- basketball- scored 44 points and had 10 rebounds in 50-49 win over Dexter. Recorded 30 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three blocks in 65-44 loss to PVHS.
Other nominations
- Caleb Solomon- Houlton- basketball- had 21 points, 11 rebounds, three steals, and two blocks in 86-50 win over Fort Fairfield. Had 18 points and eight rebounds in loss against Caribou.
- Alex Tash- PVHS – basketball- had 28 points, four rebounds, and two assists in 65-44 win over PCHS. Scored 18 points in 65-53 win over Stearns.
- Tyrone Davis- Schenck- basketball- had 27 points in 57-38 win over Penquis.
