Charlie Coyle had a pair of goals, and Trent Frederic scored a first period game winner as the Boston Bruins broke a two game losing streak with 4-1 win over the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden Sunday afternoon.
Coyle and Frederic made it 2-0 Boston at 6:41 and 18:14 of the first. Charlie McAvoy made it 3-0 with his third of the season at 10:20 of the second. New York (7-9-3) did get on the scoreboard when Colin Blackwell tallied his fifth at 10:47 of the third, but Coyle ended any thoughts of a comeback with a shorthanded marker at 18:05 to end the scoring.
Boston, who had been outscored 13-4 in the previous two games including a 6-2 loss to the Rangers on Friday night, moves to 12-5-2. Tuuka Rask made 20 saves, and Coyle (two goals), McAvoy (one goal, one assist), and David Pastrnak (two assists) were the multiple point scorers. Alexander Georgiev made 31 saves in the loss for New York. The Bruins will return home to host the Washington Capitals on Wednesday night.
