Hermon outlasts MDI in girls semifinal

HERMON- The Hermon Hawks used an 11-0 fourth quarter run and never trailed on Friday night, defeating the MDI Trojans 49-40 in a Class B PVC girls basketball pod semifinal game.

Hermon (10-4) took control early, building an 11-1 lead five minutes in. The Hawks led by 10 twice in the first quarter and had a 15-7 lead at the end of the first eight minutes. Four points each from Leah Carroll and Mollie Gray in the second allowed MDI to outscore the Hawks 10-5 and cut the deficit to just 20-17 at halftime. The Trojans would tie it when Emily Carter hit a free throw to make it 26-26 with 2:20 left in the third. Hermon though would take that same halftime advantage of three to the fourth quarter 31-28. After Gray hit one from the line to cut it to 34-33 early in the final period, the Hawks ran off 11 straight for their biggest advantage of the game at 45-33, and would hit 9-12 from the line in the fourth to come away with the win.

Jade Leeman led #2 seed Hermon in the win with 14 points and seven rebounds. Maddie Lebel added 12 points. Allie Cameron had nine points (7-10 free throws in fourth quarter). Also contributing was Charlotte Caron with five points, Megan Tracy with four points and 15 rebounds, Sydney Gallop with three points, and Elizabeth Wyman also had a basket for two points. #3 MDI (8-7) was led by Gray with 10 points and eight rebounds. Carroll had eight points. Elizabeth Jones had six points and five rebounds. Also chipping in was Carter with five points, Elena Alderman and Grace Witham with four points each, and Olivia Gray with three points. Hermon will now face top seeded Old Town in the PVC girls Pod Championship game next week.
