Maine women’s soccer topped in overtime at UNH

March 7, 2021

Francesca Picicci scored in extra time on Sunday afternoon, leading the University of New Hampshire Wildcats to a 1-0 overtime victory over the Maine Black Bears in the America East Conference women’s soccer opener for both teams in Durham, NH.

Offense, which has been hard to come by for Maine in their first three games, was again a problem against UNH. The Bears only manufactured two shots on goal in the contest (0 in first half), and still haven’t scored a goal in the spring season. Kira Kutzinski kept the game scoreless through regulation stopping all five Wildcat shots. In the extra session, Kutzinski came out to play the ball but couldn’t get to it and Picicci got by her and kicked the ball into an empty net from about 25 yards away. Cat Sheppard got the shutout in net for UNH, as the ‘Cats improve their record to 4-0, 1-0 America East. Maine falls to 0-3, 0-1. The Black Bears will host NJIT next Sunday at 1 p.m. at Mahaney Diamond in Orono.
