Millan, Porter named as finalists for top awards

Maine women’s basketball fifth year senior guard Blanca Millan, and Maine women’s ice hockey senior goaltender Loryn Porter have been named finalists for two prestigious awards its been announced this week.

Millan was named as one of five finalists for the Becky Hammon Award on Wednesday, as the top women’s player at the mid-major level. Earlier this season, she became the first women’s player in America East to win both Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year Awards for the second time in a career. Millan enters Fridays America East Championship game against Stony Brook 17th in the country in scoring (21.4 points per game). You can read more about that announcement and Millan below-

On Thursday, the announcement came down that Porter has been named as a top three finalist for the first ever Women’s Goaltender of the Year Award. Porter just finished a season where she had a 1.49 goals against average (sixth best), and a .954 save percentage (second best). She only allowed 27 goals in 18 games played in 2020-21, that included postseason where she helped the program advance to the Hockey East semifinals for the sixth time in its history.
