Husson softball splits two with UMPI

The Husson softball team continued their string of non-conference games by taking on the University of Maine-Presque Isle for the second doubleheader between the teams this week. The Eagles would end up splitting the two games, taking their first loss of the season in game two.

In game one played at the Winkin Complex in Bangor, Husson took an early 3-0 lead and held on for a 4-2 win. Katie Raymond had three hits, while Sydney Ames, Jen Jones, and Erin Bonenfant each had two a piece in the win. Jones went the distance in the circle to improve to 4-0, allowing two runs on five hits with six strikeouts.

In game two, Melanee Terry reached on a fielders choice that drove in a run in the bottom of the sixth to give UMPI (1-3) their first win and sending Husson (7-1) to their first loss by a score of 2-1. Five different Eagles had one hit a piece, and Ames (3-1) took the pitching loss allowing two runs on two hits in 6.0 innings.

The Eagles and Owls will meet for a third straight time on Thursday for a doubleheader in Bangor. The games will be the first in North Atlantic Conference play for both teams.
