UMBC baseball salvages final game of the series with Maine

March 28, 2021

The UMBC Retrievers jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 7-1 America East baseball win over the Maine Black Bears at Mahaney Diamond in Orono on Sunday. The four game series was changed to just three due to the pending weather forecast.

UMBC (7-5, 2-5 America East), after being swept on Saturday, got a two run triple from Michael Cilio in the top of the first and that is all they needed to salvage the final game. The Retrievers added on in the fifth inning when Ian Diaz hit an RBI triple, another run scored on an error, and then Jack Ryan had a bases loaded walk and Christian Easley had an RBI single to make it 6-0. Joe Bramanti knocked in the only run for Maine (7-4, 2-1 AE) with a sacrifice fly in the sixth. Jeff Mejia also had two hits for the Black Bears. Alex McKenney (2-1) took the loss on the mound for the hosts allowing five runs on four hits with three walks and six strikeouts in 4.1 innings.

Maine returns to action next Friday when they open up a four game series at home against Binghamton with a pair of doubleheaders. First pitch on Friday for the two games is 12 p.m.
