Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 334 past athlete of the week winners.
This week we had three Rowells Garage female athlete of the week nominations. Ana Lang stuck out 44 in three games in leading Searsport to three wins this past week. Lang is the 10th student/athlete from Searsport high school that have earned athlete of the week honors. She joins Briana Grant (2-9-14),Jake Powell (5-10-14),Karigen Coffin (2) (9-17-16),Melinda Ogden (12-21-14),Troy Reynolds (2-8-15),Brittany Ward (5-16-15), Bryce Shorey (1-16-16),Mitchell Philbrook (6-19-17), andMakenzie Alley (2) (2-22-2021)
Female athlete of the week- May 10th- May 15th
- Ana Lang, – Searsport- softball- threw a one hitter with 12 strikeouts and only one walk, also didn’t allow any earned runs and went 3-4 with two RBI at the plate in 4-2 win over George Stevens. Had 17 strikeouts and allowed one earned run plus had two doubles and three RBI with the bat in 4-2 win over Bucksport. Got 15 strikeouts, allowing three earned runs and hit two doubles in 9-7 win over Sumner.
Runner up
- Jaida Case- Machias- softball- Had three hits, including a home run, and four stolen bases on offense. She also struck out 15 in 8 innings in 8-7 come from behind win over Sumner. Had two hits, including a double, and five stolen bases and struck out 12 in 13-7 win over Shead. The sophomore lefty has struck out 57 in five games this season.
Other nominations
- Kaelyn Parks – Central- softball- struck out 18 (including nine in a row to start the game). allowing only two hits and three unearned runs in 4-3 win over Foxcroft. She caught a line drive and fielded a ground ball to have a hand in 20 of the 21 outs.
